Classes for parents and children:

Asthma Survival Skills

Free, multimedia learning experience for parents and caregivers of children with asthma.  Classes are offered at several community sites in Milwaukee, and they can be scheduled as requested by any organization.

Asthma Survival Skills for Foster Parents

Free, multimedia learning experience for better asthma management and control. This class is scheduled by foster care agencies.  Ask your agency when the next asthma class is scheduled!

Home Nursing Education

Take the Asthma Control Test. Does your child score less than 19 points? If so, your family may qualify for a program where a nurse comes to your house to provide one-on-one asthma education. Referrals to the program require that the form below be completed and returned by your physician.

Asthma Care at Child Care

Free classes to help child care professionals recognize early warning signs and symptoms of asthma, respond to a child experiencing asthma attacks and prevent attacks. Classes are offered at several community sites in Milwaukee and can be scheduled at individual child care centers.

Classes for school teachers and students:

Asthma Basics for Schools

Free, on-site asthma management training to help school personnel understand asthma, respond to symptomatic children and prevent attacks. Classes are scheduled by request.

Asthma Smarts

Free, on-site lessons for students with asthma in grades 3-5.  Each Asthma Smarts program consists of 3, 30 minute lessons.  Classes are scheduled upon request.

Breathe to Achieve

Free, on-site program for all students (with and without asthma) in grades 3-5.  45 minutes of multimedia teaching in a classroom and 45 minutes of gym activities with reinforcing messages.  Addresses reading, math, and science learning targets.  Fulfills one health and one physical education lesson for the week.

Events for the general public:

Asthma Wellness Day

An asthma-focused health fair for all ages. Health care professionals discuss asthma management skills, talk about new treatments and help raise awareness. This program is held once a year in the fall, and is bilingual (English and Spanish).

Classes for clinicians and professionals

Allergist Outreach Asthma Education

Three-hour continuing education program taught on-site by an allergist and nurse team.  Includes guideline review, clinical case discussion and equipment demonstrations.

Teach Asthma Management

A training session for nurses, office managers, medical assistants, outreach workers and health professional students.  The six-hour seminar works with participants to improve the asthma management education that they provide to families and clients.

 

Intro to Asthma:

A two-hour class that provides foundational information on asthma pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, environmental triggers and medications. The program highlights how health professionals can teach this information to community members and clients.
